Export Testing Guidelines

Protatek Export Testing Guidelines

Sample Requirements

– Serum tests require 1cc of serum PER test (minimum).

– When required, a total of three (3) unstained blood smears should be submitted (See specific country requirements below).

– Serum samples and blood smears MUST BE collected on the same date.

Form Requirements

– Owner, pet name, clinic name, transport company, phone and fax numbers clearly written on form.

– Microchip number clearly written on form.

– Date when samples collected.

– Travel destination clearly written on form.

Protatek Reference Lab is a government approved laboratory.

For the countries listed below, Protatek Reference Lab offers the following canine export tests.

Send samples overnight (standard) with ice pack. Payment must be included in the form of a check or money order (no personal checks). We do not accept Credit Cards. Please do not send cash.

The listed tests are not all of the tests required for export to these countries. Please consult your local consulate, pet transport company, or USDA for further instructions.

New Zealand

  • Leptospira canicola microscopic agglutination test.
  • Heartworm antigen (ELISA) test.
  • Blood draw for Heartworm antigen and Leptospira canicola must be completed within 30 days of export.
  • Blood draw for the tests listed below must be completed within 16 days of export.
  • Babesia gibsoni IFA test.
  • Brucella canis rapid slide agglutination test (RSAT), tube agglutination test (TAT) or cytoplasmic agar gel immunodiffusion test (cAGID).Please allow 10 days lab turn-around time.

Australia

  • Ehrlichia canis IFA test.
  • Leptospira canicola microscopic agglutination test.
  • Brucella canis rapid slide agglutination test (RSAT) or tube agglutination test (TAT).
        Please allow 10 days lab turn-around time
  • Leishmania infantum IFA test.
  • Testing for the FOUR listed tests must be completed within 30 days of export.

South Africa

  • Babesia gibsoni IFA test.
  • Babesia spp. giemsa smear examination (slides or lavender top tube accepted).
  • Brucella canis serum agglutination test.
  • Leishmania infantum IFA test.
  • Heartworm microfilarial filtration test (must submit a lavender top tube containing a minimum of 1cc whole blood).
  • Testing for the FIVE listed tests must be completed within 30 days of export.
  • If your pet has originated from another country other than the United States, a test for Trypanosoma spp. is required.


REMINDER:
  Babesia gibsoni IFA and Leishmania infantum IFA tests are run only on Fridays. Other listed tests have varying completion times. Please call with any questions.
